Australia Day Family Fun Day
This Australia Day sees the official opening of the Racing Calendar at the Whitsunday Sailing Club for 2021. To mark the occasion the club will host a Sailing Expo featuring stands from the Whitsunday Maritime Training Academy and Sailability who work with the disabled community to allow them to experience and learn to sail.
Sailing Manager Ross Chisholm said it’s the best opportunity for those who have been interested in learning to come and try it out “sailing is a wonderful sport that all the family can enjoy so for Australia Day we are offering come and try sessions to get locals out on a boat and out on the water having a go”
In addition to the expo a Parade of Sails will open the sailing season with a fleet of boats dressed in their flags and burgees sailing past the club providing a colour spectacle for all to see. A Blessing of the fleet will also be performed by local celebrant Donna Fornasiero to ensure safe passage and racing on the ocean
“There will be something for the whole family to enjoy at this years’ event” said Event Manager Caitlin Mcluskey “we’ll have Mr Poppa here from 10am doing his balloons as well as glitter tattoos, live music from 12pm, kids activities to keep them entertained and the downstairs bar will be open to keep the parents entertained! The guys from STAR FM are joining us as well from 10am with prizes and giveaways too”
