The Easter Regatta for offshore racers and trailable yachts is on!
Now that Cyclone Debbie has been and gone, the NQCYC has announced that their Easter Regatta, for offshore racers and trailable yachts is on. While the club has received major damage, some facilities may not be available, and catering will be very limited.
The racing will be "White Sails" only (No spinnakers or extras). This may assist those who have limited crew available.
In the wake of Ex-Cyclone Debbie, the Whitsunday Sailing Club is open with limited capacity. A limited menu is available from the bistro, the bar is in full operation, and the club's gaming facilities are in full swing.
While the club building received only minor damage, there is substantial damage to the boat yard and a number of boats have been substantially damaged.
The Marlin Marine Series will be conducted over the weekend of 4 - 5 March 2017. Consisting of a short offshore race on Saturday, followed by two bay races on Sunday, the three race program also counts toward the Club Championship as well as the Summer Series and the Offshore Series.
Races will be conducted under Cat 5 in accordance with the current Australian Sailing (AS) Special Regulations and the WSC Sailing Instructions.
Racing commences on Saturday and Sunday from 1100 Hrs.
Further to the last skippers meeting held on 31 January, there was a suggestion to split Twilight Division 3 into two separate divisions. This matter was discussed at the last Sailing Committee meeting where it was agreed to trial this for the month of March, after which the outcome will be reviewed prior to a final decision.
Boat owners are reminded that race entry fees are payable in advance. There are currently a number of boats who are substantially in arrears. A complete list of boats and their race entry fee status is posted on the notice board upstairs in the clubhouse.
Competitors are reminded of Twilight Race Notes (in particular Clause 2) within Appendix "A" (Courses) of the 2016 Offshore Racing Guide. As of the second race in the April series (13 April 2016) this rule will be strictly enforced.
As part of the final preparations for Airlie Beach Festival of Music, which is fast approaching, we ask that members with vessels in the yard inform the club at their earliest convenience of their boating intentions during the first half of November.
