Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Islands
Airlie Beach is located approximately one and a half hours drive north of Mackay in northern Queensland. The Whitsunday islands are a group of seventy-four islands just off the coast of Airlie Beach. Many of the islands are uninhabited, though several have resorts on them. Notable among the inhabited islands are; Hamilton Island, Daydream Island, Long Island, South Molle Island, Lindeman Island and the five star Hayman Island.
Perhaps the most famous of all the islands in the Whitsundays however is Whitsunday Island, which is home to the stunning Whitehaven Beach - a six kilometre long stretch of radiant fine white silica sand.
Airlie Beach offers a wide range of boat trips visiting the islands and the great barrier reef. For keen sailors who would like to cruise the islands on their own agenda, there are many yachts available for bareboat charter from several companies in the area.
The Whitsunday Sailing Club
