23 March 2020

 An open letter to members.

As members will have heard by now, the Government has instructed all Registered Clubs to close indefinitely from midday today, 23 March 2020.

Accordingly, the Whitsunday Sailing Club Clubhouse will be closed. It will not be possible for Members to access the licenced premises i.e. the main Clubhouse building. So, all food, beverage and retail operations will cease immediately. All bar, food services and non essential staff have been stood down

We are looking into the possibility of selling perishables and alcohol to members only, to be consumed off the premises.

At this stage, our marina hard stand and mooring aspects of the Club’s operations will be unaffected – however this of course may change. Similarly, the Whitsunday Maritime Training College remains open along with all admin functions of the club including memberships.

The Board meets tomorrow night to consider the options for the Club going forward and our General Manager is undertaking modelling for the next six months to determine the financial position, particularly as regards our ability to retain some employees and the need to look after their interests. We are also acutely aware of the impact of this direction on our contractors and will take into account their needs, as best we can, in our decision making.

At this point in time all sailing events including wed twilight racing, weekend racing and the Easter regatta have been cancelled until further notice.

This is, of course, a horrible position to be in, but we have the skills and resources on board to navigate our way through it. I expect to communicate with members once again as the situation evolves.

Stay safe.
